Hashtags #οΈβ£
Hashtags come from the community and are not official VirtuaMakers π¦ products, positions or endorsements. What a hashtag means is up to the members who use it.
A hashtag is a word with a # in front of it β #Hashtags, #Machinapology, #GoodMorning. Write one in any Wall post, comment or Dialog on Agora π and it lights up as a link, whatever it says. Once enough members use it, it gets its own page here in the Knowledge Base π. Together those pages make a community dictionary: every tag, how often it's used, by how many members, and where.
What counts as a hashtag
- A # at the start of a word, followed by letters, numbers or underscores β
#Blade_Runner,#2026Goals,#cafΓ©,#ζ₯ζ¬θͺ. - It needs at least one letter, so
#1isn't a hashtag. Up to 50 characters. - Punctuation ends a hashtag, so you can write naturally:
#Hashtags!,#Hashtags, and(#Hashtags)are all just#Hashtags. Spaces, hyphens and emoji end it too β#well-beingis#well, so write#wellbeingor#well_being. - Capital letters don't matter:
#Hashtags,#hashtagsand#HASHTAGSare the same tag. Its page shows the spelling members use most. - Up to 10 different hashtags count from any one post, comment or message.
Revealed every Friday
New hashtags are revealed every Friday at 6:00 AM Eastern. Use one today and it becomes a link straight away β to this page, until it passes the rule of 5 below β but its own page, with the counts and where it appears, arrives on a Friday morning. Something to wake up to at the end of the week, and never a reason to stay up late. Edits and deletions made before then are counted as they stand on Friday. As VirtuaMakers π¦ grows, we'll reveal them more often.
Where they show up
- As links, wherever CommuniquΓ©s π¨ shows text β Walls, comments, Dialogs and the Product Page Walls.
- On the hashtag's own page: how many times it's been used, by how many members, and when it first appeared. Anyone can see that much.
- Where it appears β a list of the posts and comments that use it β is shown to signed-in members. A hashtag used in a Dialog is listed only as "From a Dialog" with its date: this page never shows who wrote it or what else it said.
- Edit or delete what you wrote and its hashtags follow at the next Friday reveal: the counts match what's really on Agora. Anything removed by moderation drops off too.
The rule of 5
A hashtag joins the Knowledge Base π β its own page, and soon Search π β once it has 5 appearances from at least 3 different members, checked at the Friday reveal. That keeps one person's passing word out of the dictionary, while any tag the community actually shares finds its way in. Until then its links lead here.
Enthusiasts, fret not: every use is counted from the very first, so a hashtag that sails past 5 during the week arrives on Friday with its full, accurate count.
Coming next
- Definitions: members propose a one-line definition for a hashtag, and an admin approves it. Every hashtag page says "Definition proposed" or "No definition proposed".
- Newest & busiest #hashtags, here in the Knowledge Base π, and related tags on each hashtag's page.
We're letting hashtags run free for now and will raise the thresholds, or add moderation, only if they need it.
